Challengers Sail to Success at GWS Sailjuice Series 2018

The intrepid trio of Val Millward, Graham Hall and Jack Alderdice; all Rutland Sailing Club and Rutland Sailability Challenger sailors, braved the winter weather to take part in the GWS Winter SailJuice Series.  Out of seven events, the best four results to count.  Not all venues are able to allow Challengers to take part so our trio could only sail in five.

The weather went from cold but sunny with light winds at Draycote, biting, freezing winds and snow at Datchet, the end of a hurricane at Grafham, no wind to strong winds at Rutland to warm and sunny with light winds at Oxford.  They do say variety is the spice of life.  Over the nine years that the series has been held this as been recorded as the coldest.

The results for the trio at the end of the series, out of 347 competitors, were:-

17th Graham Hall

18th Val Millward

28th Jack Alderdice

Val was 3rd Lady Helm, receiving a voucher from Gull

Val was also placed 5th in the Dynamic Results calculations.

The Trident top Club award was given to Rutland Sailing Club due to the combined results of the three Challenger Sailors!

The awards were presented at the Royal Yachting Association Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace on 3rd March 2018.
