We are hugely honoured and excited to have received a substantial award from the John Merricks Sailing Trust.

The John Merricks Sailing Trust decided that in its 25th anniversary that it would wind up the fund. As part of this, they decided they wanted to award 6-7 large sums to what would be strong legacy projects around the country. RSC member David Wilkins and the club Sailing Committee, of which David is a part, entered an application on behalf of RSC for the award and was selected as one of the six from a high volume of applications.

The application requested funds to enable the club to purchase two keelboats, with the intention of developing the sailing opportunities available to all club members and building participation in the sport of sailing with a particular focus on young people.

Thanks to the team's hard work, the bid was successful and following discussions with RS, the funds awarded will allow the club to procure and maintain 2 x RS21 keelboats with a value in the region of £60k - An astonishing gift to RSC.

The award has been gifted to RSC as an organisation on the basis that it can provide ...'a lasting legacy that will respect the Trust's purpose to help young people under the age of 25 to achieve their potential through the sport of sailing.' More information can be found here.

In fulfilling this purpose, it is the club's intention that the RS21 club boats are readily accessible to all our members, as individuals or in groups, fleets or teams, offering the opportunity to experience keelboat sailing in different formats including fleet racing, match racing, cruising, taster sessions, boat handling skills and training. It is also the club's intention that these boats be used in the future for community outreach projects, encouraging participation amongst groups of people who might not otherwise have access to the sport.

An RS21 sailing schedule will be published shortly along with information about the different ways to get involved and enjoy these new club boats.

The two boats, due for delivery in late-May, will provide the club with a tremendous asset that promises to give many years of enjoyment and valuable opportunities to our members and local community. Please join us in thanking JMST for their generosity, RS for their support and the RSC Sailing Committee members for their work in securing the award.
