Annual Sailfish Rally

Published 17:56 on 22 May 2022

The Annual Rutland Sailfish Rally was held on the weekend of the 14th and 15th May.

Nine local boats and four visiting boats attended.

There was the usual exchange of ideas and mast raising before boats were launched.

Saturday was an informal sail round the outside buoys of the lake. Five boats drifted in the very light wind for several hours to finally round the extreme northern lake tower four finished the course having found some wind for the final leg.

Sunday was the time trial around the lettered buoys 'ANCHOR' and we were fortunate to have plenty of wind, several boats were duly reefed. The best time was 1hr 09 mins.

All boats were recovered and prizes distributed:

  • Rutland Trophy for the best time in the trial, Ron & Jill Day in 'Daysie'
  • Best New Innovative modification Bob Smith for Lazy Jacks
  • Best Refurbished Sailfish John Laxton for 'Rolo'
  • And pictured below, Andrew Willatt receiving the Endeavour Trophy for services to Sailfish.
