Millie steers the boat via the switches mounted either side of head. These operate an electrical link to the rudder.

The 2022 RYA Sailability Multiclass took place over the weekend of 6 th to 7th August.

There's also a report on the RYA website here: https://www.rya.org.uk/news/2022/08/09/multiclass-regatta-2022-makes-triumphant-return

What these results hide, is the personal triumphs of simply participating - many for the very first time, many from our wonderful team of younger sailors (who mainly sail on Saturdays):

  • Lottie & her crew Malcolm Kirk - 2nd in her class, in her first ever regatta & the youngest sailor in the event
  • Millie M. & her crew Wendy Alexander - 3rd in her class and her second year of sailing in a Multiclass
  • Bertie & his crew Steve Osborne - 5th in his class & his first ever regatta
  • Logan & his crew Bev Jacques, Andy Winterton & Simon Faire - now an experienced racing sailor in the Hansa 303 Single class, helming for the first time in his second regatta in a Venture & finishing 1st in his class
  • Milly E (photo at the top) and her crew of Andrew St John, Rob Le Voguer & proud Mum Kate, after years as a junior member achieving her long held target of simply competing in such a large fleet!

And finally - all due respect to Bill Ridlington - our oldest participant, who came 3rd in his class and tenth in the event overall. For those who haven't heard, earlier this year, Bill celebrated his 90th birthday by participating in RSC Sunday Racing!

and thanks

from Pauline Crowley, the Chair of Rutland Sailability:

"Its the morning after and Im sitting here trying to fathom how on earth does one begin to draft an adequate thank-you. A big, big thank-you to all the members of Rutland Sailability and Rutland Sailing Club who contributed so much time & energy to the smooth, safe & successful delivery of the event both ashore and afloat.

"To list the tasks fulfilled risks unkind omissions but suffice to say, excellent team-work and A job done well done. Thank-you!

"And to all our sailors, congratulations to those who finished Bronze, Silver & Gold. Youve set the bar high. But success is not only measured in medals.

"Despite the size of our team, we may not have won the Best Club trophy (calculated by our average scores) but we absolutely won out on the number sailors, comparatively new to racing, who were able to experience the lows and highs of participating many for the very first time. Congratulations!"

A big thank-you to those who crewed and a huge congratulations to all the helms!
