Race Training Day

Saturday 26th August 2023
10:00 am - 16:00 pm

All RSC members are welcome at any experience level and any boat type.

Starts at 10am in the upstairs training room. We are planning to also have on water practicals.

If you are looking to improve your racing or want to learn how to race, why not attend our Saturday session where you will be able to practice essential race training techniques under the watchful eye of a tutor and experienced members.

Morning:

The morning will focus on getting started with racing and covers basic information like, what do the flags mean, how to set up a race watch, different course layouts, understanding Sis and NORs and what to do if you do something wrong.

Afternoon:

The afternoon will focus on seeing what we have learnt in real life. This may include having some of the group on a committee boat using the flags and others practising line race starts in their own boats.

  • The starting sequence 5,4,1, Go.
  • The start line understanding line bias.
  • Wind shifts and wind patterns.
  • Good starting technique
  • Other boats
  • Maximising speed
  • Approaching and rounding marks
  • Essential race rules
  • Reading wind shifts
  • Technique for tacking & Gybing.
  • When to tack and gybe
  • Maximising boat speed using the boat controls.
