Being an Active Bystander

11th November 2023, 15:00 - 16:30

Have you ever been in a situation where you wanted to challenge someone's behaviour - but you didn't know how to do it or what to say?

Club members are invited to attend a short Active Bystander coaching session which aims to help members to challenge microaggressions, harmful comments and behaviours. The training is run by www.activebystander.co.uk and includes self-coaching techniques to help you keep a cool head when faced with a challenging situation - and assertive language devices which you can use to make sure your voice is heard if you want to raise a concern.

The training will cover a range of topics, including:

  • Being comfortable whilst challenging uncomfortable behaviour
  • Knowing when it's appropriate to step in and challenge microaggressions, discrimination or bullying

This training aims to help members to challenge poor behaviours which may have become normalised over time.

On her recent visit to Rutland, RYA Chief Executive Sara Sutcliffe shared that the RYA directors all completed this training and she recommended it for our committees, volunteers, all members and staff. Attendance strongly urged for Council and Sailing Committee members; open to all Club members.

A 90 minute interactive session, online or in person (at the Club), with light refreshments served afterwards for those attending in person.

The session will be available FREE for all Club members on Saturday 11th November 3.00 - 4.30pm. To reserve your space, online or in person, please book below.

By working together we can create a kind, safe and supportive environment at our Club.
