Power Boat Instruction & ICC
Power Boat Courses
PB1 - 1 Day
The one-day RYA Level 1 Start Powerboating course is a fantastic practical introduction to boat handling and safety in powerboats. From ages 8 and up. Covering launch and recovery, preparing the boat and crew, boat handling, picking up and securing to a buoy, leaving and coming alongside. No previous experience is required and at the end of the day, you should be comfortable helming under supervision. Perfect for novices or crew members wanting to contribute more to their time on the water, the entry-level course can be completed on a centre vessel or your own craft. It's also a great introduction for younger crew members.
PB2 - 2 Days
Provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It aims to teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats. It focuses on low-speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planning speed, and collision regulations. The course can be taken at an inland or coastal location. It may be conducted in a variety of boat types, both planning and displacement. The certificate issued will be endorsed to show the type of boat in which the training took place.
No previous experience is required.
Safety boat - 2 Days
This two-day course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes, or for racing or training activities. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying.
ICC
The ICC is intended to provide evidence of competence when requested by officials in a country you are visiting (i.e. a country you are not a citizen or a resident of). It's an assurance from one government to another that the certificate holder is sufficiently competent to be operating a pleasure craft, despite not holding the visited country's certificate.
