Learn to Sail at Rutland Sailing School
Our sailing school specialises in dinghy and catamaran sailing and we are able to offer the best possible training and instruction. The professional staff, trained by the Royal Yachting Association offer everything from introductory sessions to personal tuition sessions in your own boat.
We use a variety or boats from Fusion, Laser, Topper and RS, to offer the best possible boats for our clients. Whatever your ability we have something for you.
The facilities are shared with Rutland Sailing Club to provide excellent learning in a friendly club atmosphere.
Club Racing
Racing at all levels of skill is enjoyed by many club members for all types of boat. And if you’ve not raced before, we’ll help you get started. There is year-round class and handicap racing. What could be better than coming to the lake after work on a Thursday evening for a race, a meal and a drink with friends! As well as regular fixtures, special events are organised throughout the year and there’s plenty of opportunity to improve and develop your skills by joining in Open Meetings.
Open Meetings and Training
Planning an Open Meeting, Championship or Class Training Event? Look no further! Rutland Water is ideal for advanced competitive sailing the courses can be challenging. A venue where those seeking to gain extra speed or develop tactical skills can practise to their heart’s content and then trounce the opposition! Our team provides expert Race Management and facilities to cater for the special needs of racers coming in hungry and wet from a day’s battle. The RYA Olympic squads visit us regularly need we say more!

Rutland Water is a very large lake. So, whether you’ve got a cruiser or a dinghy: get an ice-cream from Whitwell, sail to the top of the northern leg, or drop anchor in Barnsdale Creek for a picnic. You can pootle around the pond by yourself or there’s regular social sailing if you prefer some company. Explore, cruise or snooze it’s all available and what could be better on a sunny summer afternoon?
