Race officer training
Train to be a Race Officer
Are you keen to help but not sure what to do? Here's the solution
Being a Club Race Officer can be very satisfying and rewarding but, if you're not prepared in advance, there can be pitfalls.
Rutland Sailing Club offers practical training by a qualified RYA Regional Race officer, preparing you for almost all situations so that you can volunteer, confident in your knowledge and ability to achieve a successful outcome.
There is no cost to members. Workshops can be arranged, for groups of up to four, at times and dates to suit you either on weekdays or at weekends.
During the workshops you will be shown how to:
- Assess the conditions and form a Race Plan
- Operate the Committee boat and its equipment
- Position and lay a Racecourse
- Set up a start line
- Practice all the Race Management procedures
- What to do if things start to go wrong
Workshops usually last about two hours and take place in the clubhouse and on the lake in the Committee boat. All Race Equipment is provided.
