Summer Camp
Rutland Family Camp 2026 will be 4 days of fun family activities and racing. There will be activities for everyone.
For young non-sailors there will be shore-based activities and opportunities to ride in boats and have a go. For existing sailors, there will be fun water-based activities and racing.
Volunteers & Parent Support
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times who can actively participate. We cannot take responsibility for your child. The camp relies on parent volunteers and cannot run without help. There will also be opportunities for adults to sail.
Arrive after your evening meal on Sunday 23rd August to pitch your tent.
The event will finish on Thursday 27th August by 6pm.
Racing will include:
- Junior Jetty for anyone; non-sailors can jump in with more experienced helms
- Ospreys for people of Cygnets/Ospreys level
- Junior Pro for people who compete in national fleet racing in Tera Pro or Fevas
- Youth Challenge in single-hander fibreglass boats (ILCA/Aero)
- Novice Adults for novice adult sailors. We have Toppers that can be used if you don't have a boat, or double-handers
- Main Race for everyone, in any boat
Daily Timings
9:30am Introduction and briefing
Location: The John Merricks Building
Cost The event is bookable via the RSC website event booking system. The member's price is £100 for 4 days for the whole family or £30 per day. Non-members are very welcome, with a £20 per day temporary membership charge added on top, bringing the total to £180 for 4 days, or £50 per day. The event is run at cost.
Accommodation Camping will be available in the Rutland Water campsite across the road and is encouraged but not essential. Payment will be collected by bank transfer during the week. Daily rates are:
- Pup tent £5
- One-man tent £7
- 23 man tent £9
- Family tent £12
- Caravans and campers £12
- Motorhomes/twin-axle C-vans £14
Food Breakfast will be in the campsite bring your own or join the daily pancake queue (donations of eggs appreciated).
Monday: The canteen will be closed. Bring your own lunch and snacks. We will have a bring-your-own BBQ in the evening. If you don't have a BBQ, bring your own food and cook on an available one.
Tuesday: The canteen will be closed. We will offer a packed lunch option (roll, crisps, fruit and chocolate) at a cost of approx. £1.50 per person, prepared by parents. Packed lunch pre-orders taken on Monday. Otherwise, please bring your own lunch and snacks. In the evening, Pizza Gorillas will visit for a pizza buffet at £10 per head. Please indicate on the Rutland Sailing Club website whether you wish to be included.
Wednesday: The canteen will be closed. We will offer a packed lunch option (roll, crisps, fruit and chocolate) at a cost of approx. £1.50 per person, prepared by parents. Pre-orders taken on Monday. Otherwise, please bring your own lunch and snacks. That evening, the canteen will be open and we will be holding a Mexican night social Mexican food and games. Please pre-book your dinner via the Rutland Sailing Club website and choose from the drop-down menu either the Meat or Veggie option, in either a standard or small portion.
Thursday: You will need a packed lunch to take on the water for Pirate Day. We will offer a packed lunch option (roll, crisps, fruit and chocolate) at a cost of approx. £1.50 per person, prepared by parents. Otherwise, please bring your own lunch and snacks. The canteen will be open, with the option of joining in with the Club Racing menu in the evening, which can be pre-ordered during the event.Boats We have a number of Toppers available if you don't have a boat. If you would like to sail a specific boat for daily racing (such as a Tera) and don't own one, please book this with the sailing school directly ASAP £10 per day. They have limited boats and will be running summer courses, so availability is very limited! Please arrange this before daily briefing to allow time to arrange rental and rigging.
Sailing Kit
If you need to borrow kit, please let us know on the camp What's App group and we will round up extras or arrange spares from the sailing school. Please do not help yourselves to anything at the Sailing Club without their permission first.
Fancy Dress
Wednesday night will be Mexican theme, so if you have any relevant fancy dress, please bring it along!
Thursday will be Pirate Day, so please come ready to decorate a boat and dress in fancy dress.
