Rutland Sailability
Sailability Boats
Rutland Sailability, based at Rutland Sailing Club, supports people with disability to experience the pleasure, thrills and freedom of sailing. We meet at the Club every Thursday throughout the year although our sailing season is April October/November (dependent on weather). On Saturday mornings (April October) we run a Sailing Club for Young Sailors with disability. Outside the sailing season regular social and training events are organised, providing lots of opportunity for Members to get together. Visit our web page.
Not sure? Try watching this video!
or see the RYA Sailability page.
We have a range of boats for Members to sail, all designed with safety and accessibility in mind. Our boats range in size from those designed for solo sailing to those large enough to accommodate small groups. On Sailability days we also offer assistance to people with disability who choose to sail their own boat.
Many of our Members enjoy a leisurely sail on Rutland Water. For those seeking competitive sailing there's opportunities to get involved at our Sailability Racing organised most Thursday afternoons throughout the sailing season and at Sailing Club racing events. Some of our Members are also involved in racing nationally and internationally.
If you haven't sailed before we are able to provide training. Working in partnership with Rutland Sailing School, a range of RYA accredited courses are available, run by RYA qualified Instructors.
All our activities are organised and run by dedicated volunteers disabled and non-disabled. So as well as providing opportunities for people with disability to sail, we also provide opportunities for disabled and non-disabled to enjoy working, sailing and socialising together.
