The Challenger Fleet

870147 orig

The Challenger is a single-handed trimaran, which is suitable for disabled as well as able-bodied sailors. It is almost impossible to capsize. However, its design means that it's an exciting boat to sail with a performance that's similar to a Laser Radial or Solo. It has recorded a top speed of 13.4 knots.

At Rutland Sailing Club we have a very active fleet of Challengers. Many of those taking part own their own boats. Rutland Sailability members are encouraged to join club racing using boats owned by Rutland Sailability. This contributes to the inclusive sailing that Rutland Sailing Club offers to their members. You can find out more about Rutland Sailability by clicking here.

Participating in club dinghy handicap racing has developed our member's skills and sharpened their competitive abilities. Currently 6-8 Challengers are competing with the possibility of fifteen if all were to sail on the same day!

The Rutland Challenger sailors have been highly successful nationally in the Great British Sailing Challenge (GBSC). Members have competed, and been placed favourably, in the GBSC series. Their combined results over the 2017/2018 Winter Sailjuice series enabled Rutland Sailing Club to gain Top Club Status that year. They have also been placed 2nd over 60 and 2nd Lady Helm in the 2019/2020 series.

Members also attend Challenger Class Open Meeting Competitions. Our sailors have been dominant within the Class Competitions for a number of years.
