Instructor Courses, VHF & First Aid Courses
These Instructor courses, VHF & First aid courses are run throughout the year, subject to requirements and availability contact us for more information and when the next course is running.
Instructor Courses
We can run courses for instructors teaching, or wanting to teach the RYA Sailing Scheme. Our basic principle is to maximise the time you spend on the water to improve your personal sailing. We believe that the more confidence you have on the water, the better you will be as an instructor.
Details on all our instructor qualifications are available on request.
VHF Short Range Radio Course
It is a legal requirement and worthwhile to have a personal licence if you are going out on the water and have a VHF radio. On this course you will be using, and talking about the latest in fixed and handheld VHF (Very High Frequency) radio units.
You will learn about the correct channel usage, the correct Safety, Urgent and Distress procedures to use, and what is meant by GMDSS (Global Marine Distress and Safety System) and how it can help you out on the water. The SRC is not suitable for those working on larger commercial craft, where a more advanced qualification is demanded.
The course consists of two days training running from 0900 till 1700.

RYA First Aid Courses
When you are out on the water accidents can happen. You may find that you need to help someone until professional help can reach you. In such an emergency first aid knowledge can save lives. This course is just as relevant for not only those involved with the first aid on the water, but also for those everyday situations that may occur.
This course covers all basic injuries and illnesses such as, headaches, sunburn, cuts, grazes, and sprains, progressing to learn how to deal with emergency situations that you could find out at sea, concentrating on resuscitation (CPR). You will also learn about first aid care for man overboard victims, including dealing with shock, hypothermia, unconsciousness and head injuries. This is an extremely worthwhile course, a must for every sailor.
