Lots of trophies for Rutland sailors at ILCA (Laser) Nationals

Congratulations to all the Rutland Youth and Juniors taking part in the ILCA Nationals held in the baking heat last week down at Hayling Island.

Rutland had more youth sailors taking part in the championship than any other club with 14 sailors in total. IN the ILCA 4s our youths made up almost a tenth of the fleet. Amelie Hacker had a great week- with a second place in one race and two further top 10 results to see her finish 24th overall and winning the U16 female trophy.

Close behind her was Harry Rowlands in 26th also with three top 10 results and winning the Most Improved Trophy.

The best club position came from Toby Smith who finished 14th overall with a consistent series and 4 top 10 results.

Congratulations to all our young sailors Tatiana Hazelwood, Dylan Beatty, Will Fearn, Harry Burge, Immy Palmer and Ellie Hattam who all had some good races; gained experience in difficult conditions and who continue to represent Rutland on the National circuit.

In the ILCA 6 fleet (Radials) It was Jamie Tylecote, Issy Leetch, Sam Lowbridge and Ben Tylecote flying the flag again more youth sailors than any other club, not a bad effort considering two of our youth sailors are currently out at the Youth Worlds in Texas. Issy picked up the prize for third U19 Female competition. Jamie was first Rutland boat in 27th 6th GBR under 19. Uncle Alistair put in an appearance after some 25 years out and finished a creditable 17th overall.

Ewan McAnally has worked hard this year to move up to the ILCA7 ( standard) and put in an impressive set of results to finish 27th overall out of a fleet of 36 and with a 10th in one of the races.

It is a tough venue a long sail out and difficult tidal conditions. On top of this a mix of very light winds, 4 races in one day in strong winds; thunder and lightning, 40degrees; two false starts when the fleet launched, in one case staying out for a couple of hours before racing was abandoned and the fleet brought ashore. It all happens at Hayling.

It was a great week for our sailors and the extended families both on and off the water. The highlight for me being the float past.

Our sailors don't stop there. Amelie and Oli are currently competing in the Feva Worlds; our juniors off to the Tera Worlds; our youths sailing in Firefly Nationals and Aero Worlds. Congratulations to all.
