Cruiser Fleet - Charity Triathlon - Night Sail
What a weekend! From the hottest day to one of the wettest evenings! Following the walking and cycling events the sailing element took place on Saturday 18th / Sunday 19th June 2022.
David Cadman encouraged sponsors, participants and supporters to raise over £4,500 for Air Ambulance, RNLI and Sailability.
For the Night Sail particular thanks go to Jenny and Andrew Crow for staying in the Race Hut throughout the night; to Pete Ashworth for providing expert safety cover for the night; Martin of Charnia Catering for providing meals for all skippers, crews, guests and supporters for Friday and Saturday evening.
8 boats took part with 3 boats (Whisky Mac, Kingfisher, Fingers Crossed) covering 7 laps of the 5 mile course over Rutland Water throughout the night. Others retired due to soaked crew or took a break to restart at dawn. Team Sailfish completed a total of 10 laps between them and gave their crews an unforgettable experience.
Thanks also go to Gordon, Phil and Bill for organising the teams of walkers, cyclists and sailors rallying participants and ensuring all took part safely. Cruiser Fleet helped support the Night Sail with lights and night-time refreshments. RSC CF hope all David's family, friends and colleagues enjoyed their experience.
Here's to Night Sail 2023!
The night sail was held on the weekend of the 18 th and 19th June (being the weekend closest to the summer solstice). Here are some random photos taken by Nick Verdino, Pete Ashworth and Kerrie Noon. Most taking part thought it was a great adventure, although it was also described as a "long wet cold dark" with a "warmer finish". The 5 hours of rain probably didn't help but it was a beautiful sunrise.
