Wonderful feedback from Blind Sailing

Published 15:13 on 29 Apr 2024

I hope this letter finds you, and all the members at Rutland Sailing Club well.

This is a letter from all at Blind Sailing, of true thanks and gratitude to the warm and welcome open arms your club has shown. I came to the club as a youngster many, many years ago and loved it then, and to now be Commodore of Blind Sailing bringing our members to the club is very special and a privilege.

From our touch point at the RYA Dinghy show to now, the club and its members have gone out of their way to provide, not only a safe and inclusive environment for us to train for world championships, but to also allow some of our sailors, that just want to sail, to join our weekends.

It's true what they say sometimes, we do not realise or appreciate what is on our doorstep. The club provides a Sailing Club, accommodation, catering, keelboats, ribs safety and a great expanse of beautiful water that we can train in safely.

With the support of you club, Blind Sailing have held an international event, training and selection for world events and been able to get more new sailors on the water, so this thanks is from around the world.

There are a few key people that I we would like to give personal thanks to:

David Wilkins has been such an influence on Blind Sailing as an organisation in the UK and internationally. David has been instrumental in getting Blind Sailing back on the water and racing from around the world. He is inclusive in his thinking and always ensures the club and boats are in good condition.

The Tylecote family have opened the door to Blind Sailing and welcomed us all into the club. Steve has passed on his knowledge and love for the sport helping the team that are going to the worlds be at their best for the competition.

Tim, Tony and many other club members share their passion and experience of sailing in order to benefit our sailors which is greatly respected.

We would also like to thank James and the office and catering staff. Everyone always carries out welfare checks and support us when required.

This is just one big thank you to Rutland Sailing Club and I know I have not mentioned everyone who continue to encourage people from all backgrounds to sail on your waters. It takes an inclusive team to do this, and you should be proud of your team who are succeeding.

Yours sincerely

Lucy Hodges MBE

Commodore
